Cecily Mary Barker is the original author
and illustrator of the Flower Fairies™ books. Cecily
was born in
Croydon, South London in 1895 and died in 1973. She led a quiet
life; owing to ill health she was educated at home and largely taught
herself to draw and paint. She used real children as her models for
the Flower Fairies™, and her flower pictures are botanically correct.
Her original Flower Fairies™ books, the first of which was published in
1923, brought Cecily acclaim as an artist, and have become classics of
children's literature.
